Wo Yi Hop Chun (Village)

Hello My Dear Great Ones,

Hong Kong is unique in that it really is more of a small territory than a city.  There are numerous villages scattered throughout this "territory."  I live on the edge of one (Wo Yi Hop) which is located at the base of Hong Kong's tallest mountain.  Or more accurately Hong Kong tallest inactive volcano Tai Mo Shan (Tall Cloudy Mountain).  Wo Yi Hop is not the prettiest village, as the following pictures will confirm, but the location is awesome.  Lots of surrounding jungle, hiking trails, and hills makes it a great place to live.   So without further ado here is my adopted village:  Wo Yi Ho Chun.

Wo Yi Hop is located in the district of Tsuen Wan.

There are no high rises in Wo Yi Hop.  Rather most live in village houses like this.

Some HK Random Pics

Hello Dear Great Ones,

It has been quite the year in HK.  Protests, covid 19, National (in) Security Law, political arrests, international sanctions.  Wow.  It has been heavy in HK.  Yet,  despite all that life carries on and there are plenty of things in Hong Kong to still make you smile and marvel.  Governments, pandemics, political unrest will come and go, but the marvel of sunsets, nature, and the humour of people will always go on.  I am grateful to be in Hong Kong.  I believe God brought me to HK and He has certainly blessed me richly and I am grateful.  So here are a few random pics to show that life moves on and there is always something to smile and be grateful about.

Best Bike Trip Ever

Hello My Dear Great Ones,

One of the great features of where we live is that our backyard is basically 44000 hectares of jungle.  There is also a reservoir with a 6.5 km road around it.  During unbusy times Celia and I will often bike on that road.  It is rather challenging with plenty of uphill and down.  The variety of scenery is pretty spectacular.  Bamboo, trees with shedding bark, waterfalls,  pretty amazing.  There is also a lookout where we always pause and soak in the beautiful scene.  The following pics were taken by myself, Celia and a friend who joined us on one of our trips.

Being quarantined in Hong Kong is not too bad.  Lots of nature to bike and hike through.

Urban Jungle

Hello My Dear Great Ones,

Hong Kong is the 8th most densely populated city in the world!  68000 people per sq. km.  8 million people in an area of 1100 sq km.  Alberta in comparison has a population density of 6 people per sq. km. 4 million people in an area of 661000 sq km.  

Despite this crazy population density stat, 40% of HK is natural parks!  Another 20% is made of natural/rural/agricultural land.  So how do you pack so many people in such a small area?  High rises.  Tons of them.  The third most of any city in the world.  Most people in Hk are packed into them. 

All these high rises creates an urban jungle.  Below are a few shots of what I mean.

Tai Mo Shan (Tall Cloudy Mountain)

Hello My Dear Great Ones,

Tai Mo Shan is the tallest mountain, or more accurately largest former volcano in Hong Kong.  It provides great views on a clear day.  Especially after a rain storm.  It's beautiful up there.  Plus as an added bonus there are sometimes a herd of "wild" cows enjoying the lush grass.  Celia and I continued our forced staycation in HK with a brief journey up to the top of Tai Mo Shan just before sunset.
