Hello My Dear Great Ones,
A great indicator of what a society is like is what they eat, how they provide what they eat, and where they eat. While Hong Kong has many, many high end restaurants with high, high end prices to match there are hundreds, nay thousands of lets say lower, some much lower, end establishments catering to the more budget conscious consumer. One of the fun (in my opinion) features of these establishments are the banners that they have plastered on, or nearby providing you a visual and brief explanation of the delicacies that they offer. They are colorful, bright, gaudy, ugly/beautiful if you know what I mean, and are mouth watering or gag inducing depending on what you like. Here are some visuals to give you an idea of what I mean:
The restaurants try to outdo one another with color, brightness, and aggressive waiters pushing their wares.
Some establishments are very popular. This one offers rice pots with fish, meat, whatever you want. There are always lineups to get in.
The establishments are all rather small with a few tables. You are paying for the food not the ambience! The following pictures give you an indication of what they like to eat in Hong Kong. Enjoy:
The above was just a small sample of what is offered.
Many of the restaurants have tables spilling out into the sidewalks or in this case the alley. Again, you are paying for interesting food not atmosphere. But I find it all quaint and real and that makes it a neat expereince to eat in places like this. Bon Appitet!
Love adios and ping on!
