Hello My Dear Great Ones,
Our tour in Germany continued with a trip to Heidelberg where we spent a weekend with our good friends Michael and Sabine Zimmer. They gave us a wonderful tour of their amazing region. More importantly it was nice to be with them and we left Heidelberg encouraged and blessed.
A nice little boat ride on the Neckar river.
While eating ice cream in downtown Heidelberg we were treated to a demonstration. It was basically a cry for the government to show mercy for refugees.
Street performers added to the downtown excitement as well.
On our walk down we came upon some rather interesting wood carvings.
The next day we went on a 60 km roundtrip bike trip to Speyer.
Speyer (German pronunciation: [ˈʃpaɪ̯ɐ], older spelling Speier, known as Spire in French and formerly as Spires in English) is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, with approximately 50,000 inhabitants. Located beside the riverRhine, Speyer is 25 km (16 miles) south of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim. Founded by the Romans, it is one of Germany's oldest cities. Speyer is dominated by the Speyer Cathedral, a number of churches and the Altpörtel (old gate). In the cathedral, beneath the high altar, are the tombs of eight Holy Roman emperors and German kings.
The city is famous for the 1529 Protestation at Speyer.
We traveled through a variety of different landscapes and towns. The famous Speyer Dom (Cathedral.)
Inside was impressive...
Outside of the Cathedral was a lovely pedestrian walk way with quaint el fresco restaurants.
After some rest and fortification of ice cream we headed back to Heidelberg.
Have a great week everyone!
Love adios and ping on!
Dirk
