Hello My Dear Great Ones,
Celia and I have taken so many pictures here in Namibia that I have material for this blog to last well into next year. Deciding on highlights has been tough. However here are three that rank right up in the amazing category..
Number 1. Cape Cross seal colony. Cold, loud, stinky, but quite impressive. Seeing thousands of seals congregated in one spot was amazing. The seals seemed to be ok with the intrusion of several tourists into their sanctuary. But no one dared touch them or try to scare them. It was a must see site.
Number 2. Visiting the Cheetah Conservatory Fund near Otjiwarongo was amazing. Cheetahs are very endangered. CCF works hard to protect and conserve some of the 7000 that are left. Most of the cats at CCF were orphaned as kittens and would have died without CCF stepping in. Seeing the acknowledgement of countries around the world (yeah Canada and Germany) supporting this worthy cause was great.
This bird dropped by to pick at horse meat intended for the cheetahs. He cleared out in a flash when the cats were allowed to get at their bowl of food.
Number 3. Driving around Etosha National Park we came across what we that was a smooth rocky outcropping. Upon a closer look we realised it was an elephant. A rather large elephant. We watched from o distance in our vehicle for several minutes. Then just when we were ready to move on the elephant decided to come towards us. That was an interesting experience to say the least. Our truck was pretty sturdy but if this behemoth had decided to attack we may have been in trouble. Yet elephants tend to be pretty chill and this guy was chill. Whew.
Next week. More from Namibia. It deserves several more entries.
Have a great week.
Love adios and ping on!
Dirk
