Logan Pass

Logan Pass is located along the Continental Divide in Glacier National Park, in the U.S. state of Montana. It is the highest point on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The Logan Pass Visitor Center is open during the summer season just east of the pass.

Last week Celia and I spent a wonderful day with my friend Brent, who I got to know before internet, dvds, and twitter.  We used to write letters to each to other!  Yeah, we have known each other a while.  One of the things we have done together over the years is do a Logan run.  The trip down from Lethbridge is interesting as the scenery is mainly bald prairie.  Then shortly after you enter Montana, which is kind of interesting as you have to hand over passports and get grilled by border guards, the prairie quickly grows into foothills and mountains.  The trip to the Logan Pass Visitor center is rather dramatic since the Going-to-the-Sun Road clings precariously  to the side of mountains and the so called rock safety barriers at the side of the road do not provide much comfort or assurance from the fact you will have a harsh and violent death if your vehicle plunges into the abyss.  Nevertheless, the hike along the boardwalk near the visitor center is visually inspiring and seeing mountain goats meandering around is great fun.  We were fortunate to get a good day cause mountain weather is moody and changes quicker than ahhhh hmmmm a tired and hungry grade 1 having a bad day.

So thanks to Brent for being an excellent tour guide, it was a great trip.

On the way down to Logan Pass.  The mountain on the far right is Big Chief Mountain.

In mountain paradise with my sweet wife.  The line in the side of the mountain on the left of the picture is the road we came up on.

The peak with the thing coming out of it is called the Bishops Cap.

A shaggy mountain goat losing its winter fur.  The radio collar keeps track of his movements.  Vital info for scientists and environmentalists.

Cute.

Fantastic scenery.  Hidden lake is in the background.
