Culinary Delights with Sven

My Dear Great Ones,
A major highlight of Sven visiting us in Hong Kong is exploring, discovering, and devouring the amazing culinary delights of Hong Kong.  Here are a few highlights:

Thai.  Spicy awesomeness.

North American classic breakfast.  Pancakes, bacon, sunny side up eggs, coffee, plenty of fruit, and rocky road ice cream.  Oh yeah.

Simple beer and peanuts at an exotic locale in Tai O.

German wurstal feast with friends on the rooftop.

Machos Nachos with beef.  Enough food for three!

Japanese Pepper steak.  Hot and peppery.

Seafood delight on Lamma.

Stormies platter.  International snack delight.

Now remember we also worked hard, swam, hiked so we needed replenishment.  Maybe next time we will explore some Chinese delights.  We'll see.

Have a great week!

Love adios and ping on!

Happy Trails with Sven

My Dear Great Ones,
Sven certainly got a good workout during his week off.  We did a 2.5 hour walk around the Shing Mun reservoir during a time when it had just rained.  Best time to go.  Sven thought the reservoir walk would be a 45 minute FLAT meander near the water.  Opps.  I forgot to tell him about all the hills and that the trail goes quite a distance away from the water.  Nevertheless, at the end, after all the griping Sven admitted it was a great walk.

Up the hill.  Good for the gluts.

Some beautiful scenery:

Interesting trees:

 Yep the scenery is amazing.

Paper bark tree is awesome.

There was also some wildlife to wonder at:

Survived and still smiling.

A week later we had a day off and took Sven up to Tai Mo Shan.  The tallest mountain in the Hong Kong territory.
Sven was expecting some flat, easy walking again.  Sadly mistaken.  But once up in the hills all was forgotten.

View of Yuen Long (Hong Kong) and Shenzhen, China in the background.

 Sven marveling the view.

 Tai Mo Shan
 Hong Kong:

 Note the spider.

Sven checking out Shenzhen and Hong Kong:

Celia and us enjoying the views of  Yuen Long and Shenzhen:

We then went up to the Ozone on top of the IFC.  Great views:

Sven left a little sore and worn out, but happy.  Next week, the final installment of Sven's visit.  What he ate in Hong Kong.  Should be good.

Have a great week.

Love adios and ping on!

Tai O with Sven

My Dear Great Ones,
My brother Sven came to visit us for a week here in HK.  On his first full day here it was rather rainy, but that did not deter us from heading out to Tai O.  Tai O is a rustic fishing village, famous for its odd houses on stilts, dried fish, and a lookout where on a good day you can see white dolphins.  You can also see from the lookout the still under construction Hong Kong to Macau bridge,  which will be one of the longest if not longest bridge in the world.  Sven, Celia and I saw all of the above and then had a beer in a quaint terraced restaurant right on the main canal of Tai O.

Rain, rain, rain.

Dried fish are extremely expensive and a speciality in Tai O.
A look at some of the famous fishing houses on stilts.

The main canal of Tai O.

A dried shark?  Terrible.

A front view of one of the stilted houses.

Street scene.

Low tide.  Note tilted house.

Statue to Chinese white dolphins.

In the background the under construction Hong Kong to Macau bridge.

A view of Tai O and surrounding area.

A plaza in Tai O.

Sven and I on bridge overlooking the main canal.

Sven and I hiking above Tai O.

Hanging out in a quaint establishment in Tai O.

Have a great week everyone.
